Timothy J Metzer, President & Founder

Tim was a non-profit professional for over 45 years with experience in agency management, fund raising, board development, staff training and public relations.  Tim retired from the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) after 31 years of service.  He worked with chapters' staff and volunteers as a Field Director/Regional Director for 11 years prior to his retirement and was the Executive Director of the Desert Mountain States Chapter (Arizona, New Mexico and Utah) for 20 years.  In his role as Field Director he worked with assigned chapters on personnel management, staff evaluations and retention, hiring, volunteer recruitment and leadership development and strategic planning and needs assessments.  In addition he helped chapter executive directors through one-on-one and group coaching, designing and implementing organizational initiatives and objectives.  Tim graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Arizona State University and was a long time member of the Association of Fund Raising Professionals. Tim recently completed eight years of service as a member of the Board of Directors of Desert Southwest United Methodist Foundation.  During those eight years he served as President, Vice President, Secretary/Treasurer and Chair of Scholarship Committee.  He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the North Scottsdale United Methodist Church Foundation and sings in the Chancel Choir.


Michael Pearson, Vice President & Founding Director

Michael has more than two decades of sales and marketing experience in both nonprofit and corporate settings. He is currently working as the Director of Marketing and Engagement for NOAH (Neighborhood Outreach Access to Health).  Previously, Michael worked for MatchMaker FundRaising Software as Vice President Sales and Marketing, as well as United Blood Services, Imaging Systems of Arizona and OpenWorks.  Michael graduated from Northern Arizona University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with an emphasis in management. He has also received a Professional Certificate in Nonprofit Management from the Arizona State University Center for Nonprofit Leadership and Management


Susan K. Metzer, RN, BSN Secretary/Treasurer and Member of the Board of Directors

Sue is a Registered Nurse, graduating from Oregon Health Sciences University with a Bachelor’s in Nursing, later achieved her CCRN while working in the Critical Care Unit at St. Luke’s Hospital in Phoenix. Sue is currently working part-time at Vi at Grayhawk as a Wellness Center Nurse. During her 40+ years as a nurse she worked in a variety of positions in ICU, Special Procedures, Cath Lab, Disease Management & as a nurse in two medical practices. She coached Little League and Girls’ Softball for 10 years, was Children’s Music Director for 8 years at North Scottsdale United Methodist Church, played women’s fast-pitch softball for 12 years, and has played co-ed softball with her husband, Tim, for 25 years. Sue enjoys golfing, bowling and singing in the NSUMC Chancel Choir, playing in two Hand Bell Choirs, and spending time with her 3 grandchildren.

 

Directors

David Decker, MBA

Dave currently owns his own luxury travel business, Humani Tours and Travel. Before he decided to follow his passion for travel, he worked for 22 years as an executive in the financial services industry, leading consumer research and analytics teams for Wells Fargo, HSBC Bank, and American Express.  He is currently working on his PhD at Arizona State University in sociocultural anthropology, and also has an MBA from the world-renowned Thunderbird School of Global Management. Serving the community has always been important to Dave, and he has raised over $350,000 for various nonprofits over the last 10 years while living here in Arizona.

Andrea Price

Graduating Magna Cum Laude from Arizona State University, Andrea is currently involved in health services as operations director for Welcome Home House Calls, a mobile physician group. Prior to that she was employed as a field service associate for Desert Mountain Medical, where she regularly participated both in home visits and operating room brace fittings.  In addition to having three daughters, Andrea initiated and directs the Alexandria Legacy Lodging Program to assist housing arrangements for families needing assistance when their newborns require NICU care. Her interest here, however, is made more special for the several years of personal friendship and working with Matt as he spread his joy in life.

Darin Read

Darin is a Senior Program Manager of marketing at Salt River Project in Tempe, AZ where he leads the marketing efforts for SRP’s commercial energy efficiency rebate programs and the SRP Drive Electric campaign. As a marketing professional for over 15 years, Darin has developed and implemented successful marketing initiatives and campaigns across multiple channels. Darin is also the Director of Music at North Scottsdale United Methodist Church where he oversees the entire music ministry program, staff, and conducts the Chancel Choir. In his free time, he enjoys golfing, fishing and most of all spending time with his two young sons. 

Julie Reid, AAMS

Julie is a licensed financial advisor with Edward Jones in Chandler, Arizona.  Before becoming a financial advisor Julie for a number of non-profits including the American Lung Association, Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and Dream Center Education Holdings.  Julie has a Masters in Public Administration from Cal State Dominguez Hills and BS from Arizona State University.  Julie was the Executive Director for the American Lung Association in Phoenix for 4 years and prior to that she served in a variety of roles of leadership with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.  Julie worked with Tim Metzer, President and Founder of the Mattie Foundation closely during her tenure at LLS.  Juie's experience includes customer relationship management, event management, staff supervision, budget guidance and public relations.

Steven K Urke, CPA

Steve is a partner in the CPA firm of Urke and Stoller, LLP.  Steve has volunteered for a number of charities including serving as President, Treasurer, and Board Member of the Desert Mountain States Chapter of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
